McTimoney Animal Chiropractic

The McTimoney College of Chiropractic was founded in the 1970s. John McTimoney originally developed his technique for treating people but was later developed to successfully treat animals. The Mctimoney technique is a very gentle form of chiropractic that relies on swift small adjustments in order to optimally align the spine and pelvis. Animals generally are very accepting of this technique as it uses minimal force and relies more on stimulating the body's innate ability to heal itself.

Improving spinal alignment has been shown to increase range of movement of joints. Correct bony alignment reduces nerve impingement where the nerves exit at the joints, reducing pain and muscle tension thus improving comfort and performance.

Case Study

Rolo the Miniature Dachshund

When I first met Rolo he had been suffering from spasm attacks, where he would be unable to move, that had not been resolved with conventional veterinary treatment. My initial assessment flagged a slow proprioceptive reflex in his right hind leg as well as his excessively hunched posture. After just 2 treatments, Rolo's owners reported that he was no longer having his episodes and his back was much straighter. Since Dachshunds are prone to spinal issues I advised Rolo's owners to give him a good quality joint supplement to provide him with additional support as well as regular maintenance treatments to ensure he stays comfortable.
